Annapurna College of Film and Media offers a UGC approved Master’s program in Filmmaking (MA Filmmaking). The course is a combination of the Core Subject Filmmaking that includes Story, Screenplay, Direction and Production along with a specialization in the following crafts:
Cinematography
Scriptwriting
Editing
Sound Design
Course Structure
Students must undertake a Bridge Course online before the semester commences to align themselves with the vocabulary and process of filmmaking. An intensive on campus exposure to the practical aspects will follow.

Semester 1 - Students study the core subject Filmmaking that covers various aspects of script writing, narratology, script development, Direction and Production. Alongside a chosen craft will be learnt from the professional elective subjects Screenwriting, Cinematography, Editing and Sound Design. A grasp on both areas gives the student better prospects of finding work and creating professional content.

Semester 2 - Students delve deeper into the common Filmmaking core and the chosen professional elective namely Screenwriting, Cinematography, Editing and Sound Design. They get to shoot Documentaries off campus, learning the art of non-fiction. Semester 3 - Students get a series of Master classes and workshops in their chosen professional elective. Exposure sessions with Industry practitioners help improve their skills and understanding. They gain wider exposure to a range of media and technologies - from Television, OTT, Digital Media, and Web based platforms to Virtual Production. They create a collaborative mini series and attend internships..

Semester 3 - Students have a series of Master classes and workshops in their chosen professional elective. Exposure sessions with Industry practitioners help improve their skills and understanding. They gain wider exposure to a range of media and technologies - from Television, OTT, Digital Media, and Web based platforms to Virtual Production.

Semester 4 - Students participate in a pitching boot camp to create scripts. They are exposed to the entire process and rigour of presenting a pitch deck and thoroughly understand the professional expectations involved. From the bank of scripts completed , 6-9 Films are produced each year - and students collaborate on the projects for their graduation film.
Though the films are funded by the college, students who seek to spend more on the budget, are permitted to augment the budgets, permitted to a capped amount, thus ensuring a professional portfolio. Key roles are selected based on merit, and the crew comprises students of the batch from all core filmmaking crafts.
The best films are selected and sent to reputed film festivals across the world.

This comprehensive curriculum offers practical training in both fictional and non-fictional aspects of filmmaking. A strong emphasis is placed on Film Studies, achieved through in-depth film analysis and group discussions.
Upon completion, MA Film & Media graduates can opt to pursue diverse career paths within the Film and Media Industry, leveraging their proactive approach and achievements, or they can choose to advance their education domestically or internationally. The program is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), ensuring its academic integrity and quality.
