Annapurna College of Film and Media offers a UGC approved Undergraduate program in Filmmaking (BA Honors Filmmaking). The exposure to a number of subjects under the umbrella of Filmmaking is essential for the student to find an entry into a collaborative filmmaking crew. As the Industry and Film technology is constantly changing and evolving, so is our course constantly aligning to the demands of the Industry.

 

This year we offer a new approach to our course delivery, shifting to more hands-on experiential learning and offer 2 new specializations being VFX and Video Advertising. VFX Being a key craft used to tell stories from different worlds, times and ages in films; Video Advertising being the cutting edge crisp storytelling approach to advertising, having moved far away from static ads and ad films of the past.

Course Structure

The BA Film and Media syllabus is carefully structured to provide students with a robust foundation in various allied arts and societal issues during the foundation year. This foundational experience is essential before delving into the specifics of their chosen elective core subject. Additionally, students gain valuable insights and formative wisdom in cinema and filmmaking, shaping their understanding of the field before focusing on their specialized areas of study.

Semester 1 - In the first semester, students delve into English Communication, Direction & Production fundamentals, Technical Triad of Filmmaking, Creative Writing, and Color Design.

Semester 2 - Semester two introduces Environmental Science, Scriptwriting basics, advanced filmmaking techniques, Film and Media Psychology, and Advertising & Marketing principles.

​

Semester 3 - Moving into the third semester, the curriculum explores Film & Literature, Directing, Filmmaking Techniques, Comparative Mythology, Integrated Marketing Communication, and Acting Fundamentals.

Semester 4 - Semester four covers Introduction to Film Studies, Advanced Directing, Filmmaking Techniques, Contemporary India studies, Online Advertising, History of Photography, and Production Design.

Semester 5 - In the fifth semester, students specialize in Documentary Filmmaking, Advanced Direction and Cinematography, Sound Post-production, Advanced Editing, Scriptwriting techniques, Business Acumen in Film, Copywriting, Sound Design Aesthetics, Lighting Design, and TV Production. Additionally, they learn Market Research Methods and delve into online media writing.

Semester 6 - The sixth and final semester focuses on Media Law and Ethics, studying renowned filmmakers, Sound Mixing theory and practice, Digital Cinematography, Structural Editing aesthetics, Feature Film treatment writing, Production Management, Print Production Workflow, and culminates in a Final Year Project or an Advertising Internship.

This comprehensive curriculum offers practical training in both fictional and non-fictional aspects of filmmaking. A strong emphasis is placed on Film Studies, achieved through in-depth film analysis and group discussions. Upon completion, BA Hons. Film & Media graduates can opt to pursue diverse career paths within the Film and Media Industry, leveraging their proactive approach and achievements, or they can choose to advance their education domestically or internationally. The program is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), ensuring its academic integrity and quality.
