Annapurna College of Film and Media offers a UGC approved Undergraduate program in Filmmaking (BA Honors Filmmaking). The exposure to a number of subjects under the umbrella of Filmmaking is essential for the student to find an entry into a collaborative filmmaking crew. As the Industry and Film technology is constantly changing and evolving, so is our course constantly aligning to the demands of the Industry.

 

We have adopted an innovative approach to course delivery, focusing on hands-on experiential learning, and offer two unique specializations: VFX and Video Advertising. VFX is essential for crafting immersive stories across different worlds, eras, and timelines in films, while Video Advertising leverages cutting-edge, concise storytelling, evolving beyond traditional static ads and ad films.

Course Structure

The BA Filmmaking syllabus is carefully structured to provide students with a robust foundation in various allied arts and societal issues during the foundation year. This foundational experience is essential before delving into the specifics of their chosen elective core subject. Additionally, students gain valuable insights and formative wisdom in cinema and filmmaking, shaping their understanding of the field before focusing on their specialized areas of study.

Semester 1 - In the first semester, students are introduced to Language & Literature, the fundamentals of Direction & Screenplay, the Technical Triad of Filmmaking, Film & Society, and Production essentials. Additionally, they gain foundational knowledge in Theatre Acting.

Semester 2 - The second semester builds on the foundations with Language & Literature, Direction & Screenplay, and the Technical Triad of Filmmaking. Students also explore Film & Society, deepen their understanding of Production, and study the intersection of Environmental Studies and Media.

Semester 3 - The third semester expands into core filmmaking disciplines, covering Direction, Cinematography, Sound Recording Techniques, Edit Design, and Screenwriting. It also introduces students to Advertising, 3D Modelling, Texturing & Animation, Media Laws & Ethics, Research & Writing for Non-Fiction, and Project Development.

Semester 4 - The fourth semester advances technical and creative skills with Direction, Cinematography, Sound Recording and Editing Techniques, and Advanced Edit Design. Students further refine their storytelling abilities through Screenwriting, Account Planning, Motion Graphics & Particle FX, and Production Design. They also engage in Project Pitching or explore Camera Tracking & Match Move, with an emphasis on Industry Preparedness.

Semester 5 - In the fifth semester, students delve into Business Acumen for Media & Entertainment, refining their expertise in Direction, Cinematography, Sound Post-Production Aesthetics and Techniques, and Advanced Edit Design. They further develop their storytelling with Screenwriting, Producing Ideas, and Compositing, Roto & Paint. Additionally, they gain real-world experience through an Internship.

Semester 6 - The final semester focuses on mastering Direction and Cinematography, along with an in-depth analysis of Sound Design and Editing. Students refine their Screenwriting skills, explore Video Marketing, and gain technical expertise in Shading, Lighting, and Rendering. The program culminates in a Final Year Project.

Throughout the three-year program, students engage in immersive learning and collaborate with seasoned industry professionals. This comprehensive curriculum offers practical training in both fictional and non-fictional aspects of filmmaking. A strong emphasis is placed on Film Studies, achieved through in-depth film analysis and group discussions. Upon completion, BA Hons. Film & Media graduates can opt to pursue diverse career paths within the Film and Media Industry, leveraging their proactive approach and achievements, or they can choose to advance their education domestically or internationally. The program is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), ensuring its academic integrity and quality.
