Fundamentals of Filmmaking (Telugu)

The Fundamentals of Filmmaking course (Telugu) is suitable for those interested in learning the basics to be able to work in a crew creating content for television, film, or media. In this course, students will learn about the process of film-making and will get basic foundation in the craft of making a film. The course, offered by Annapurna College of Film and Media, comprises of 6 major topics, which are Scriptwriting, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Design, Production, and Ethics. Each of these topics will be taught and trained by experts from respective fields in the film and media industry.

The program is divided into two modules

The first module will be offered via the online mode, comprising of video links to lectures. This online program can be accessed and completed from any location convenient to the student. Industry experts will provide feedback and mentoring on select assignments and students can interact with them via email.

The second module will commence post completion of online classes. As part of this, students will come to the campus for hands-on practical training on technical skills by expert technical faculty at Annapurna College. The studio set-up is unique as students work amidst commercial crew working in professional film sets. Assignments, as part of the curriculum, have been designed to foster teamwork and collaboration.

The hands-on experience of working in a crew with basic equipment will enable students to execute theoretical learning gained from the first module.

The learning from the course will enable students to take up opportunities such as ‘Assistant-directors’ or assistant crew members, post-production assistants, etc. in content development for digital media platforms like YouTube, TV Channels, OTT Platforms and Film.

Each student will be required to submit a portfolio at the end of the program. Students will be able to shoot their own ‘short-scene’ under the guidance of a faculty, which will form part of their portfolio.

Students may further take up Bachelor’s or Master’s in Film and Media and subsequently specialize in courses like Cinematography, Editing, Scriptwriting, Production, Sound or Animation & VFX at Annapurna College of film and media.

Script Writing

Sainath Thotapalli is a well-known writer from the Telugu film industry (also known as Tollywood) and has written over 104 Telugu movies so far including Sitara, Swathimutyam, Swarnakamalam, Swayamkrushi, Sirivennela, Prema, Challenge, Marana Mrudangam, Pavitra Prema and Rakhi among others. He was also long associated with Bollywood for movies such as Criminal and Gundagardi.

He worked on Padiappa, Veetilo Viseshamga, Madrasi and Villain for Kollywood. His association with the Kannada film industry has been for 14 Kannada films so far including Halunda Tavaru, Lion Jagapathi Rao among others.

Production

Swapna Dutt Chalasani is an Indian film producer based in Hyderabad. Swapna Dutt is the daughter of C. Ashwini Dutt, a well known Indian film producer and the founder of Vyjayanthi Movies. She began her career in film making at the age of 18 as associate producer of the movie Azad in 2000. Soon after her first project

Swapna Co-Produced movies with her father under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies and with her sister Priyanka Dutt. Both Priyanka and Swapna revived Swapna Cinema in 2014.

Sound Design

During his childhood, RCM Raju happened to experience a situation where a movie theatre was destroyed by public because the movie went mute for couple of minutes. He then understood the importance of sound in cinema. He is a popular dubbing artist who has dubbed for many films.

His journey started in 1996 when he has come to Hyderabad to pursue his PG diploma in theatre arts. He has worked for All india radio comparing for for multiple programs. He has received 5 Nandi awards and many more awards in his career. Over the years he has worked over 800 films, 1000 documentaries & 4000 ad films as dubbing artist.

Cinematography

Rasool Ellore Reddy , also known as Rasool, is an Indian cinematographer, screenwriter, and director known for his works in Telugu cinema, and Bollywood.

He is known for his works in films such as Gaayam, Gulabi, Chitram, and others. He made his debut as a director with the romantic comedy, Okariki Okaru. He has garnered three state Nandi Awards.

Editing

Kuchipudi Latha Praveen is an Indian film editor, based in Chennai, who works predominantly in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and English films. He is a recipient of one National Film Award, one Tamizh Nadu State Film Award among others. He has edited over 100 films across different languages so far.

Ethics in Filmmaking

JHANSI LAXMI is a popular television anchor, film actress, director, producer, writer and a columnist in Telugu theater and media. Her career spanning two and a half decades, has established her as a multi-faceted personality.

The 9 time NANDI AWARD winner, Jhansi ,is not just a plain T.V show host or film actor but also is an established media activist, advocating social, human, gender and environmental rights, through her shows NAVEENA and CHETHANA.
