Best Mobile Editing Apps

Editing can be difficult to do on your phone if you don’t have the right app. There are many mobile photo editing and video editing apps available across all app stores, making it tough to choose; more the choice, more the confusion.

Creating great visual content on social media is something that everyone would like to do and visual content is more likely to get shared on social media than other types. To put it in plain words, people like to share.

Even for marketers to know how to create compelling visuals for their business’ social networks and blogs, is an important need. You can get the editing software on your computer, but nowadays many of us use our phones to take pictures and edit them on the phone itself; especially when you are posting in real time.

Here are some of the best editing apps that you should consider downloading. They say the best camera is the one in your pocket. Check out some of our favourite photo and video editing apps below.

Image Editing Apps

Afterlight | iOS | Android | Windows
Afterlight is a rudimentary tool, but one that has all the features you need to do a basic photo edit. It can help you control color tones, adjust exposure and brightness, rotate and straighten a photo; it has everything you need for lighting or color fixes. It also has 74 filters, including a fusion feature that lets you mix tools, filters and textures to create your own personal look. It also has 128 frames to choose from. Most popular tools here are the ones for brightness and shadows; some pictures do well with a decrease in shadows and increase in brightness for cleaner, fresher look; like this photo of tree ornaments.

VSCO Cam | iOS | Android
VSCO Cam is a popular photo editing app for mobiles with a wide set of editing tools and its most popular feature is its filters which have a softer, authentic look that resembles real film, compared to the over-saturated looks of many other filters. It’s great when you need to edit a photo quickly; simply upload the photo to VSCO cam, apply one of the great filters (used C1 below) and you are done.

Mextures | iOS only
Mextures is one of the most advanced apps and its popular feature is layer-based editing. It allows users to stack different adjustment layers on top of each other, moving and editing them individually, allowing for nearly limitless creativity. The advantage here is that you can also apply multiple filters, textures and blending models to the same photo to create a really unique look. If you find an editing formula you really like, you can save it to apply to other photos later or even share it with anyone. See the photo of candlesticks on a white background; and the one next to it is with three applied enhancements – Waterfront overlay, Bokeh Baby Overlay and the Color Dodge blending mode.

InstaCollage iOS
Photo collages can be interesting to make and see and are great, whether it’s to show a comparison (like a before-and-after series), or to highlight multiple photos from the same event or theme. InstaCollage is very popular because of its wide variety of layouts and contains several layouts, both classic and fun ones with interesting, colorful backgrounds and you can add customized text in different fonts, colors, and sizes. There are basic photo editing options within the app, too, making it a one-stop shop.

Foodie | iOS | Android
Of late it is more of a fad to put up photos of what you are eating. It’s no wonder that food-specific apps are coming out to make photos look even more delectable. Food pictures also need some touch-ups and not just people. Foodie uses over 26 filters and other editing features to turn what might otherwise be a normal snack into a visual feast. Here the CR2 filter was used to a photo of chocolate candy.

Video Editing Apps

Splice | iOS only

This app allows you to splice together different video clips on your phone to create a moving collage. It also contains a library of musical tracks and custom transition length ( can be used as a background for your finished product). You can also use the app to trim and edit the different pieces of video.

PicPlayPost  | iOS | Android
What if you could make a video collage? PicPlayPost is a simple and cool app that lets you do exactly that. The sound from both videos will play at the same time, so you have to be sure that they do not clash with one another. There are many uses for a video collage app, so start experimenting now.

InShot | iOS | Android
InShot is a handy app that lets you trim, speed up or add music and filters to video and comes with a high ease of use. You can also add a background or have an overlap of images.

It is that easy to create and share visual content, but it will take a while before you master these apps and for that you will require a bit of practice. So start now!
